Anyone else read the Hunger Games trilogy? I'm curious as to your impressions of the second two books. The first, I believe, was amazing by any standards. The others were good, but more open to debate.

I read the Hunger Games but it was a while ago. Funnily enough, I didn't really like the first book at all. I felt the main character was way too unemotional and impersonal. The second book I liked better and the third book I loved. Especially the end, that was so perfect.

I had the opposite experience. Loved the first book, second was pretty good, third felt like a screenplay. I thought Katniss read believably in the first book. She was in reaction mode the whole time - she didn't give herself time to feel emotion because if she did, she'd be dead. That was my reading, anyway. The second felt a little rushed to me, at least the arena bit. The third left me feeling unsatisfied, and I still haven't figured out why.

That's really funny. I can see what you mean by the first book, but I still feel like there should be some sort of emotion. She just felt cold to me. I do agree that the arena was rushed, but I feel like that flowed well with the story and I don't think I could have sat through another book about the trials in the arena. It was time to move on to the bigger picture. Lol, and I felt like the third book was the most complete. I loved the ending, that was when I felt like she had the most emotion and she felt the most human to me at that point. Are you exited about the movie?

I think part of what bothered me about the third book was the whole mental breakdown... I understand why it happened and all - she went through a lot - but it didn't build up to it all that well. I'd have expected to see more hints that it was possible beforehand, but she just kind of... went. Haha.
I'm psyched about the movie! Hopefully they do it well. I was a little iffy about the cast at first, but now that I've had time to get used to the idea, I think most of them will be great.

Yeah, I guess that kind of happens. I was a little worried too at the beginning, but from the previews it looks like it's going to be awesome. Yet I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much because I know the books are always better than the movies.

I have the same dilemma with the movies. It looks awesome, and I want to be really, really excited about it, but I'm afraid they're not going to be as good as I'm expecting. I'm not letting myself reread the books between now and the movie, so that I won't notice every little thing that they change. I'm sure I'll still pick apart some things, but at least it won't bother me every second of the movie.

Same, I was tempted to reread the books because it's been a while but with the movie coming out so soon I don't think I will. I just saw a commercial for it on TV and it looked so good! Ah! But, I don't want to be too hopeful...

Oh, I know! The trailers look amazing. I read all three over Christmas break - got the third as a present and needed a refresher of the first two, so. But I didn't even bring them with me to school, so that I can't go back and read them again (even if I had time). I also won't be able to go and pick through them after I see the movie and ruin my first impression.

Haha, that's good. Do you know if they'll be doing movies for all three? I imagine they would and I hope they do even though the books will always be better than the movies.

Oh, I hope they do! I think they will, unless the first is a complete flop - which it won't be, because enough book fans will go see it that it will make money. And once they make the second, that's pretty much a commitment to a third, right?

True, though with The Vampire's Assistant they went really crazy with that one and I think they've only done the one and aren't going to do anymore. However, the Hunger Games is only three books so I don't think that will happen.

I think they're hyping it up enough that they kind of have to make the whole trilogy. I'm sure they could stop, but... Heh. Anyway, I think they'll make enough money to keep going, what with the fans of the books and those who will go see it just because it looks cool. Actually, I heard from my friend that they've already started working on the second one... Not sure where she heard it, though. She's studying to be a set designer, so she's going to try to get an internship to work on the third one! How cool would that be?

The adverts are dramatic enough. The music at the end makes me want to cry. They're already on the second one? Wow! Oh my gosh, that would be amazing!

Oh, me too. I freaked out the first time I heard the Mockingjay call right at the end of the trailer. It's so perfect. I can totally see it being a bird call, but it's got just that little bit of eeriness. I love it.
Not a confirmed rumor, but yeah, that's what I heard. It would make sense, though, don't you think? They can be reasonably certain that they'll make money on the first one, and the sooner they start on the second, the sooner they can get it out and have it making money, too.
