New York Times blog postWhat words or phrases bug you? Personally whenever I hear "delicious" as in "mm, this roast is delicious!" I twitch.

smash and smush have to be my least favorite words in general. People around here say it so obnoxiously. the s-m-a they say in less than a milisecond, while they drag out the sh sound for a full second... maybe i've dealt with too many pissy customers at work worried that i'll 'smaSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSH" thier eggs by setting bread on it, or others that say "NO! You're smuSHSHSHSHSHingngng my tomatoes with the marshshshshsmallows!"
...I also hate being called 'grumpy' or 'grouchy.' There is no way to use those words in a non-condescending manner. I'm an adult, therefore I am upset, not "grumpy-pants." I'm an adult, I do not get "booboos" i get 'injured' or 'hurt.' I am not 'cranky' I am 'stressed.' I do not get "hissy", I am "furious" or "pissed-off"... so, yeah, anything condescending typically dents the furnace.

"dents the furnace" - haha, never heard that expression before. I like it.
I know what you mean, man. My grandparents on my mom's side are always treating me like I'm five. We went up to see them recently and I wanted to explore the city and they FREAKED OUT. Like, I'm not going to stroll down any dark alleys. I'll be okay, right? For the record I was fine. It's like they don't know how to relate to their grandchildren now that they're adults (or pretty close) so they revert to the "would you like gramma to get you a cookie???" phase. Rrrr.
In that vein, I hate when people excuse their shitty behavior by saying they're going through 'a tough time', like I couldn't possibly comprehend their sorrow. Bitch you brought this upon yourself.

I've never heard it before, either XD
I completely agree. However, we use our bad attitudes as excuses too. I tend not to spend much time with people like that. the old phrase "out of sight, out of mind" is a useful adage.

Yeah. I'd forgotten about that. "Sorry I couldn't get you any gas money; I have really low self esteem and the thought of asking my parents gave me a panic attack."
... ever get that thing where you look at a word you KNOW is spelt correctly and it just looks funny? I had to Google "how do you spell esteem" just now because part of my brain thought it was supposed to be 'esteam' and the rest of my brain knew it wasn't

SLEEP IS FOR THE WEEK
Also I find it incredibly creepy that when I've gone too long without sleep my brain actually PRODUCES SEDATIVES AND INJECTS THEM INTO MY BLOODSTREAM. Or something to that effect; I forget the science.

Crap, I meant 'WEAK'. Usually I'd edit it but this is just too funny not to point out

Okay some explanation is merited here. A couple of years ago I was living with a friend of mine, And he had a friend that he introduced me to, We drove up to Cape Breton to visit her, And it was like 4 in the morning and me and my friend couldn't physically sleep, And she was SXE and yet she was staying up with us anyway, And we mentioned this, and she said, SLEEP IS FOR THE WEEK.
And all this time I thought she came up with that herself, but now that I've read those lyrics: she was a huge BMTH fan.
I am not unfortunately.

Not bad! I mean it's not what I usually listen to, but I listened to them both all the way through, which means something. Hey do you like Chelsea Wolfe? This and King Nothing are sort of my fuck-the-world songs.

AAAAAA I decided to download this song before it even hit the minute mark. That good. AAAAAAA Love the chord progression. It's kind of hopeful for this genre, huh?
