I want to write a book about a girl who was in human trafficking. I don't know what her name is going to be or what her past is, but I know I want my story to be realistic and to change lives.
I want my story to be about this girl who was rescued from human trafficking. I want to bring my readers through her past, her rescue and then how she deals with PTSD and learning how to reenter the world.
What do you guys think?

I think that sounds like an amazing, touching story. I also think that it will be very difficult to do well, but I'm sure you can handle it. I'd recommend doing a lot of research on human trafficking and PTSD, and talking to people who are knowledgeable about them, as well.

Sounds like a great start. Character depth will be huge. I look forward to seeing how you build it.

I was actually working on a story like that for a while, It was terrifying to say the least. But I would suggest to you to look into drugs. Because for who ever is trafficking her, the easiest way to control her is through an addiction or multiple addictions to drugs.

Sounds like a great idea for a story! But make sure you are ready for the massive amount of research you will need to do for this to be accurate. Every little thing will need to be checked out; there are all kinds of aspects that you would never even think of until you start trying to writing it. Like Sapphire said, try and find somebody who is knowledgeable about that kind of thing.
What I would do, because I am lazy, is set this in a science fiction or fantasy world where you can just invent all the details without having to look them up. You would still need to do research, but you would be able to get away with some inaccuracies. And it might add a cool twist to the story. But hey, do whatever you think is best.

I know a lot about PTSD, to be honest. I have it... It's an awful thing to live with and flashbacks can occur at any given time. Basically, your life turns into a waiting game. When will the next flashback be? Will I be able to handle it? If it happens in front of someone I love, will they think I'm a freak? Having this closes your heart off and keeps you from building any type of long-lasting relationship.
I have gone to counseling and I am going to have my main character go to one as well. I know for a fact this will be easy for me to write because I've lived it. Being in a session means you have to be vulnerable and you have to trust that person. I know exactly how I am going to write those chapters of the story.
As for human trafficking itself, I haven't had any experience with it. I know a few people who have been in it and who have survived it, but the only thing I've really done with the issue is pray for it to end. I have seen the movie Nefarious which is about women who were trafficked and women who are prostitutes. It's an amazing movie and really opens up the issue of human trafficking to a whole new level. That movie makes it real...
I have experience with drugs myself and I understand how someone can get hooked and do anything for that next hit. It's awful, but I don't know if my character will be addicted to drugs. I may have her be drugged, but it isn't what keeps her in the business. Her "pimp" will literally lock her up and keep her close to him at all times.
Maybe I'll whip up a little outline for you guys to read and you can let me know what you think. Thank you so much for the encouragement! I hope you'll be touched by what I write. [/size]

I'm sorry you have to deal with that, Faint. So I guess you won't need to research PTSD, much. I think as long as you focus on keeping the character deep and most importantly real, this will be an incredible story. I look forward to reading that outline.
