In honor of Halloween...

So in honor of Halloween, and also due to the fact that I'm still pretty disturbed by it, I'm going to tell you guys about the creepy dream I had last night...
(Seriously, pretty gruesome imagery ahead.)
I was competing in the Olympics in a sport that I had apparently mastered, though awake-me has no idea what it was beyond the fact that it involved placing a rectangular wooden box with a hole in the top in a very precise position as quickly as possible.
They blew the whistle to start, and just as I was placing my box, they called a halt - I assumed it was a false start, and was relieved because I hadn't started well. Then I heard the screaming.
The competitor two places down from me had fallen, half slumped over her box and half on the ground, with one hand over her face. The sound coming out of her mouth was seriously awful - the most horrified, pained screaming I have ever heard. There were already paramedics trying to pull her arm away from her face, and when they did - this is the seriously disturbing part - there were these sickly orange tracks on her face, under her skin, twisting around, back and forth like the coils of a snake, pressed together tightly. They were probably about a half-inch in diameter, raised from where her skin should have been. And they kept going.
By the time the paramedics had her shirt off, it had spread down her neck and onto her chest. They pinched it off, puncturing the skin, and just caught the tail end of a worm, which thrashed wildly and tried to get back under someone's skin. They tossed it into a plastic bucket and loaded the girl into the ambulance.
Turns out that the worm was hiding in the wood of her box, and as soon as she touched it, it bit her and burrowed under her skin. I woke up just as we were finding out that she would probably die even though they'd gotten it out quickly.
I may never touch wood again.
