WORKSHOP ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA
• Writing is mostly free of spelling and grammar issues.
• Critiques are thoughtful, specific, in depth, point to areas of improvement, and are constructive.
• Member desires to improve their writing.
• Member has a proven record of activity on the main forum (posts at least once weekly).
WORKSHOP RULES
• All Echo members may apply to join the workshop when they have accrued 100 points for posts elsewhere on The Echo. Reaching 100 points is not a guarantee of workshop membership. Applications will be reviewed by The Echo administration.
• Each workshop member takes a turn submitting work for critique. Works of prose must be between 2000-5000 words and poems must be between 500-1500 words. Only one prose piece may be submitted for workshop at a time. Multiple poems may be submitted as long as their combined length falls between 500-1500 words. Pieces must be submitted on Sunday, before midnight EST.
• All workshop members must post at least one full, in-depth critique of the piece being workshopped by the following Sunday at midnight EST. Earlier critiques are preferred to allow for further discussion.
• The author of the critique piece for the week will not post anything in the discussion of the piece for the first week. Any questions or clarifications by the author may be posted after all critiques have been posted. The discussion involving the author will last for the second week. After two weeks, discussion on the piece will be frozen to allow workshop members to focus on the next author.
• Two authors will be workshopped at once - one new piece which the author will not comment on, and one involving the author in discussion. One new workshop will start each week.
• Workshop members may skip their turn if they don't feel they have a piece that is prepared for workshop, but may not skip their turn three times in a row. Workshop members wishing to skip their turn must inform Echo administration by midnight EST on the Wednesday before their submission date.
• Workshop members may not trade time slots without admin permission, and may not trade time slots more than three times in a six month period.
• Workshop members who miss 3 critiques will be removed from the workshop.
• Workshop members who are removed from the workshop may reapply after they have accrued a further 100 points for posting on the main forum.
