I've taken up the recommendation of Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. What are you reading?

Good choice. But you already know that I think that. Mostly, I'm reading for school. I just finished Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel, which I didn't much like, and am now starting Oscar and Lucinda by Peter Carey. I also just finished (for the third time, heh) Fun Home, a graphic novel by Alison Bechdel. In my (nearly nonexistent) free time, I'm slowly working my way through A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin, which is good, but not the most awesome book ever.

A Series of Unfortunate Events. I've read them before, but it's been a while, and I want to get caught up so I'm ready to read his new ones. Not the same series, but they're supposed to be related.
Incredible dry humor, goofy wordplay and hilarious characters. Usually it's annoying when adults are bumbling idiots and kids are geniuses, but for some reason this series makes it work.

It's most definatly a kid's read but the jokes are hilarious. It's a wold of missspellings, and strand puns and concepts that you have to laugh at. It's possobly the most hilarious book ive ever read. but i don't read a lot of humor. Think of Monteypython

I read five chapters of Elantris last night and my one conniption with it is the names. I hate made-up fantasy names that are too out there for me to be able to pronounce. Also, he uses the word 'just' way too often and I am starting to get sick of seeing the word 'slime', but so far the story seems interesting.

I think made up names are just something you get used to - and it doesn't really matter how you pronounce them. Personally, I found the names in Elantris to be pretty easy, but that's probably because I read fantasy a lot and have seen names far more complicated. (In case you haven't noticed, there is very good reason for each character to have the name that they have.) I'm glad you're enjoying the story, anyway, Toni. He does talk about slime a lot, but... So would you, if you lived in it.

Zoom- what's Drive about? I was looking for info online, but there's a ton of books called Drive, apparently. A Scanner Darkly seems pretty intense.

Drive is the book that the movie Drive (it came out in 2011, had Ryan Gosling in it) is based on. I loved the movie so much, I figured I had to at least give the book a try. To get the basic premise, just watch this trailer ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWX34ShfcsE) trailer while keeping in mind that the story really revolves around this unnamed dude and his innate inhumanness, plus his almost desperate longing to be "a real human being, and a real hero". I guess a way to think of this movie is like as an art film wrapped up in an action/thriller. Anyway I just hope the book lives up to it I'm really liking what I've seen of ASD so far! "have seen names far more complicated" "A'l'idd'shg'h'er drew his sword. It was named 'Dd'h'j''ksdsg'h after the demons who wrought it. And one day...it would kill GHHH'g'sdg''j'fgj' and end his reign of terror over the innocent people of F'zz'g'df'j" lol I just finished ordering Elantris from the local library, guys! It should be here in a couple weeks. I'm excited
