"I love the Canadians. " <3 back atcha We are pretty lovable
"If we hung out with the 'others' a little more, I think we'd see it's not as much of an 'us vs them' problem as we think it is." In 10th grade I had to do a school project with a Catholic girl. I remember being really surprised at how smart and kind she was, and then getting really ashamed because I had assumed she wouldn't be. (PS. I should mention that this experience was really eye-opening for me and I certainly would not feel that way today) Then again, in 11th grade there was a Christian (some form of it; I can't remember which) girl who told me that my depression and drug addiction were due to God getting back at me for not Believing. She had overheard me confiding to my best friend about them and decided she'd waltz into the room and let me know this. I also knew an athiest guy who used to go out of his way to make fun of the religious for having faith. I've noticed that there are people who argue about what belief is best in ALL religions and non-religions. There are people who 'live and let live'. There are people like myself who are curious about other religions but don't necessarily believe in them. It takes all kinds, I guess.

Zoom- I couldn't agree more. Sometimes I hear other Christians making a big deal about 'works' not being as important as faith, and I think they're right. But that is NOT an excuse to be judgmental and horrible. I wish I could just line Christians up, including myself, and yell, "Get your act together! You're making us all look bad!" I'm probably exaggerating again, but you get the point.

Angelica - You betcha Born in Montreal, lived in rural NS since I was 2. Also, I could have sworn that Canadians don't actually say 'eh', but a British friend has imformed me that yes, yes, we do, and it's hilarious. "I'm probably exaggerating again, but you get the point." Actually I think just about every group of humans could stand to be told that. "Guys, just because somebody isn't a dentist who listens to ska punk doesn't mean they're less of a person!" As for works / faith, I heard a quote recently: "Just because you go to church doesn't mean you're a Christian. I can go sit in the garage all day and it doesn't make me a car".

My mom says it a lot and I cringed every time I hear it.

I know, right? Ever since then I've been actively trying to stop saying it - and I've been trying to lose my maritime accent, too. I didn't even know I had one, which makes it worse, you know?

But that is NOT an excuse to be judgmental and horrible. I wish I could just line Christians up, including myself, and yell, "Get your act together! You're making us all look bad!" I'm probably exaggerating again, but you get the point. I feel the same way. I do my best to behave appropriately according to my faith and not be a hypocrite. It's humorous when I hear other Christians swear like a sailor, gossip about others, and then in the same breath say, "I think I'm a good Christian' It floors me everytime. Amen to that. My family and I don't go to church, actually. We keep the Sabbath in our own homes. My brother is an Atheist. When he lived at home I couldn't stand it because he would purposely be offensive and rebelled against us in every way he could. Now that he's moved out I can tolerate him and as long as religion isn't brought up we're cool. But so many times he'd pick fights with me about God and I'd think 'what does it matter to you what I believe? It makes me happy, and if not believing makes you happy what do I care? I have my own salvation to worry about why do I need to be concerned with anybody else's?' And in the end, even if there is no God, I at least lived a happy life, did what I thought was right, and treated other people well. The only thing that bugs me most is when others force their religion onto others. In my youth I was guilty of this, but I learned better now. There's no changing anybody, so just be civil and avoid offensive things and if they should ask then explain.

My eldest brother is an athiest as well. He still lives with us (he's paying off his debts from college) and for the most part we don't go to topics of religon and such. He is a great debater though. But in contrast, I have three sisters that have joined religous orders, and one of them is cloistered, another in spain, and the other in Georgia. The nice thing is i know that i will always have a sister praying for me!

"Religion is like a penis - it's okay to have one, and it's okay to be proud of it, but don't take it out in public and don't try to shove it down my throat!" This is so true I had to share Of course it goes for athiesm too.

I disagree with that. There is no reason why i can't practice my religon publicly, which doesn't inherantly mean me forcing it on you. If you're offended by me making the sign of the cross and praying before i eat then look the other way.

My Faith is something that is going to inform every aspect of my life. It's not just some weird thing i do on Sundays at church and my house. I am Catholic every day of the week, no matter where i am.

It would be such a nice world if everyone just let others believe what they choose to believe. Sadly, that's just not how things work. There will always be people on their soapboxes.
